Head Start Student from 1980-1982
As a student at Head Start, I've gained essential academic tools that have helped me succeed in my professional career. I received several honors in High School for athletic performance which included All-State, All-Region, All-Area and All-Conference honors. I was also selected to play in the All-Star Volleyball competition in which I received Most Valuable Player honors. I graduated from Ashdown High School in 1995, in which I received a full athletic scholarship to attend Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. I graduated Henderson State University with a Bachelors degree in Human Services with minors in Psychology and Sociology. During my scholastic years I achieved several athletic honors which included All-Conference MVP, All-American Selection and number one in the nation in kills per game. After graduation in 2000, I was very fortunate to be selected to the Aruba International Volleyball team in which I was awarded the MVP selection for my volleyball performance. I began my professional career working with various At-Risk youth organizations such as Shepherd's Ranch and Centers for Youths and Families in Little Rock, AR. I then proceeded to work Child Protective Services for the state of Texas. I have also coached at several High Schools in which I was able to be part of successful sports programs. I now work with children and adults with mental disabilities. In October of 2009, I was inducted into the Henderson State University Hall of Honor which awards outstanding athletic achievement in collegiate sports. I am truly appreciative of my beginnings with the Head Start program as I believe that it was intricate in preparing me for academic, professional, and athletic success.
