Congratulations to the 2008 Arkansas Head Start Teacher/Early Head Start Teacher/Teacher Assistant of the Year

Head Start Teachers of the Year:

Emma Webster-Head Start Teacher/Director
Families and Children Together, Inc.

Ms. Webster has been a Head Start Teacher for ten years. She currently holds an A.A. and is pursuing a B.S. in early childhood education. She is a former Head Start parent and comes up with activities that encourage strong parent involvement in and out of the center.  “She challenges each child to reach his/her full potential.”

Regina Davis-Center Manager/Teacher
Community Action Program for Central Arkansas

Ms. Davis has been a Head Start Teacher for nine years and holds a B.S.E. in early childhood/elementary education. She works at the Heber Springs Head Start Center where “she teaches from the heart, as well as a curriculum.” She has been instrumental in increasing community support of the Head Start program and is a spokesperson for Head Start in the community.

Other nominees were: Marcia Barton-Head Start Child and Family Services; Vicky Brim-Central Arkansas Development Council; Anna Denton-Child Development, Inc.; and Teresa Melton-Ozark Opportunities, Inc.

Early Head Start Teacher of the Year:

Toshya Lane-Early Head Start Caregiver
Black River Area Development Corporation

Ms. Lane has been an Early Head Start Teacher for six years. In that time she has earned a CDA, an A.A. and a B.A. while working full time and caring for her family. She appreciates the uniqueness of all children and treasures the opportunity to impact the lives of the children and families she serves.” She makes a special effort to research and find resources for parents and staff.

Teacher Assistant/Aide of the Year:

Betty Andrews-Teacher Aide
Families and Children Together, Inc.

Ms. Andrews has been a teacher aide for ten years. She has a CDA and is currently pursuing an A.A. Ms. Andrews is “the teacher’s aide of every teacher’s dreams.” She is a “natural teacher with the additional qualities that enable her to take direction without hesitation or objections.

Sadie Paschal-Teacher Assistant
Child Development, Inc.

Ms. Paschal has been a teacher assistant for 11 years at Lonoke Child Development Center. She has a CDA. Her program uses a team approach and many of the children are as likely to say that she is their teacher. Her supervisor considers Ms. Paschal “the right arm of the center”. She always shows “affection and compassion to the children and co-workers.
