The State of Arkansas has completed the Guide to Promoting Family Engagement for all early childhood programs. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation provided funding to the Arkansas Head Start State Collaboration Office (HSSCO) to develop a guide and framework that highlights the importance of building systems, school readiness, and transitional alignment. The State Parent Coordinator will transition to the Division of Child Care/Early Childhood Education (DCCECE). The State Parent Advisory Council will stay in tact as we move forward in assisting with promoting family engagement.
Training for the family engagement guide has been scheduled in the following locations: Conway, Batesville, Fort Smith, Hot Springs, Jonesboro, Springdale, Pine Bluff, Forrest City, Hope, and an additional location to be announced in South East Arkansas. You can register for training through the Professional Development Registry. The Arkansas Guide for Promoting Family Engagement is available only by attending a training.
Arkansas Educational Television Network (AETN) through a partnership with HSSCO has produced a DVD with the family engagement training. DVD's will be available at the lending library locations (Child Care Aware sites, Arkansas Literacy Council, and HSSCO-see attached list). It will also be included on the Arkansas IDEAS site with professional development hours.
Resources are available at the lending libraries referenced above. Resources include literacy, math, and science kits; infant and toddler materials; and other resources and materials to promote building systems, supporting family engagement, and collaborating with other entities.
Special Thanks to: State Parent Advisory Council, State Parent Coordinator, HSSCO, DCCECE, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation!
